• What is in the private area

In the private area registered members will have access to a data base of the whole Vīdēvdād. They can choose a passage and immediately the Avestan and Pahlavi version of this passage will appear together with an original and provisory  translation by the members of the project in English or German. Furthermore, they can see this passage in the manuscripts that are described in the manuscripts area:

      PV: L4, K1, E4, F10, P2, M3, T44

      IndS: L1, T46, P1, L2, E10

For the present no Iranian Sādeh has been made available, but we hope to add some manuscripts of this class in the near future.

Finally a last field will show relevant bibliography of every passage, although this field will be completed only progressively. Users are requested to send us missed information, especially about own works dealing with the concerning passage. A formulary will be available for it.

At the starting point not every passage of Vīdēvdād will be available.We hope to give access before the end of April to the Pahlavi Vīdēvdād manuscripts of books 1-8 and maybe we can extend it to the books 1-14. The translation will be available for the books 1-7 in German and for 11-14 in English. The German translation will be substituted progressively by an English one.

A search engine is also available that allows to make search in the different fields, e.g. Avestan, Pahlavi or their translations. It is possible to look only for the beginning of the word.

• Who can access the private area

The access to the private area is restricted to registered members.Copyright make impossible to offer free access to the manuscripts to everyone, so it is limited to registered members. Only researchers in the field of Old and Middle Iranian studies can be registered as members and have access to the data base. Everyone who wishes to be a member is requested to send the application form with a short curriculum vitae and a selection of two or three publications somehow related to the project. The members of the Vīdēvdād Project would study every application.

Registered members are also requested to collaborate with the Vīdēvdād Project in the way they can.

• Technical instructions

For the correct view of the manuscripts in the private area you need the program Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can download it here.

The part of the manuscript to be seen depends on the configuration of your monitor. For the preparation of the manuscripts we have been working with a resolution 1280 x 1024. It is strongly recomended to use the same configuration of the monitor's properties. Only this way we can guarantee you will be linked to the right passage.

If your monitor does not support this resolution, you can choose 1024 x 768, but then it is possible that in the case of double sided manuscripts you have to shift the visible part of the pdf-document to the right or to the left.
